Wisconsin Hard at Work

January 28, 2010

Since the end of exams in December, the team has been hard at work manufacturing the 2010 vehicle. The frame construction started in mid-January and has been progressing nicely. The deadline for the first drive is February 14th and the team has been working hard to ensure that this deadline is met. The team is confident that this goal will be accomplished.

Wisconsin Racing Visits Local High School

November 24, 2009

Waunakee High School Visit

On November 23 and 24, members of the University of Wisconsin Formula SAE team traveled to nearby Waunakee High School to give presentations to students in pre-engineering classes. Since a group of Waunakee High School students are starting a Formula High School team, the UW students gave them suggestions on how to make a successful car. The presentations were followed by a driving demonstration of the Formula SAE car. For more information on Formula High School, visit http://www.formulahighschool.com/home.html. Wisconsin finishes 36th at 2009 Formula SAE at MIS

May 17, 2009

Team at MIS 2009

The team traveled to the Michigan International Speedway to compete for the World Championship from May 13 - 16 against some of the best teams in the world.  Once again, the team did well in the static events by placing 12th in design, and being in the top-10 in both cost and presentation. The team was then baffled by another engine problem that set them back during acceleration and the first half of autocross; the problem was quickly discovered, but not soon enough to beat the rain.  Showers just before the endurance event left some of the teams racing on a drying track. By the time Wisconsin set out, however, the track was almost entirely dry, and the 209 showed good pace, passing many cars and setting quick times. Unfortunately, just after the driver change, the engine temperatures began to rise, and a blown head gasket ultimately led to an engine failure laps away from the finish. The blown gasket destroyed the team's last hope of a good finish.

Wisconsin places 4th at 2009 Formula SAE at VIR

April 27, 2009

Team at VIR 2009

From April 22-25, Wisconsin Racing competed against some of the best teams in the United States at Virginia International Raceway in Alton, Virginia. There were a total of 39 register teams this year, each with their own struggles. With a new engine design, which introduced a single cylinder KTM with turbocharged induction, an early competition date, and uncooperative weather for testing, the team truly had its work cut out. In the end, Wisconsin was able to take a 1st in Vehicle Design, and a 4th overall. We would also like to thank our sponsors. Without you, we could not do the great things we do.

Wisconsin takes home 4th Place at Formula SAE at MIS 2008

May 20, 2008

The 208 during Endurance

The most prestigious of the Formula SAE events was held at Michigan International Speedway from May 14-18th. Joined by approximately 120 teams representing 20 countries from around the world, Wisconsin sported the number 1 in representation of last year's first place finish. The competition from overseas proved to be tough as the team finished 4th overall, the highest finishing U.S. team. First place went to the University of Western Australia, moving up from their 2nd place finish last year. 2nd and 3rd place went to the University of Stuttgart and the Technical University of Munich, respectively. Wisconsin was excited to see Stuttgart take 2nd place after having the opportunity of host the team in Madison for the week before competition. The two teams have developed a camaraderie since Wisconsin's visit to Germany in August 2007 for Formula Student Germany.

As the year draws to a close and planning begins for the 2009 car, the team would like to thank family, friends, and sponsors for their support. It takes an incredible amount of dedication to build a world-class racecar and it would not be possible without all of the support.

2008 Formula SAE at VIR Champions

April 29, 2008

Wisconsin took home the 1st place title at the inaugural Formula SAE at VIR competition on April 23-26. Held at Virginia International Raceway in Alton, Virginia, the event shared the venue with the Bosch Engineering 250 and other races on Friday and Saturday. The event's early timing compared to Formula SAE at MIS forced many teams to withdraw from the competition. The 32 teams that were present provided some friendly competition and a great first year for the event at VIR. Wisconsin would like to congratulate the Missouri University of Science and Technology and the University of Illinois - Urbana Champaign on their second and third place finishes.
